Our Remit

In 2017, Ashbrook was commissioned to carry out a study relating to the learning experiences and needs of education practitioners and other staff in FE colleges across Scotland.

Our Approach

CDN tasked us with getting quantitative and qualitative information from education practitioners and other staff in FE colleges.  We were able to secure quantitative statistical data by carrying out an online survey whilst gathering qualitative information through an extensive programme of telephone depth interviews. We reached out to College Principals and Vice Principals, Heads and Managers of Organisational Development in HR functions within FE colleges and individuals procuring and organising CPD within FE colleges.

“College Development Network (CDN) has worked with Ashbrook Research for some years on a wide range of projects related to the college sector in Scotland. Most recently this saw a survey which had particularly challenging timescales. The team at Ashbrook provided fantastic support and worked closely with CDN to ensure a survey that was robust and delivered on time. The researchers were on hand throughout the process, providing updates on progress and a professional final report, on time, on budget and to the high standards we have come to expect from Ashbrook Research”

Project Impacts

The study yielded invaluable information about positive and negative learning experiences. The findings allowed CDN to refine and develop its product offerings to ensure that the continuing professional development needs of those working within the sector could be met.  In particular, this study contributed significantly to the development of a learning tool for practitioners and others working within FE colleges in Scotland.
